P339H – Anse Source d'Argent Beach - La Digue, Seychelles
One of my most memorable trips was to the Seychelle Islands in the Indian Ocean. Certainly a very long trip from the US, but I was in Africa on assignment for a few months, so it was an easy flight from Cape Town. Although all the islands are wonderful, my plan was to spend most of my time on the small island of La Digue. There are not a lot of places to stay overnight on the island, so you have to plan ahead. This particular beach, Anse Source d’Argent, is really unbelievable. Gorgeous towering granite rocks, sweeping palm trees, white sand that feels like flour and blue tropical water make this the beach of choice. It’s a common tourist location for people staying on the nearby Praslin island (which is where most people stay). Because of this, the first boats don’t arrive until around 10am and are gone by around 4pm; so before and after those hours (which are the best hours for photography anyway), it’s almost like having the beach to yourself.
Traveling around the island is pretty much done only by bicycle as most of the vehicles on the island are service related. The part I found most interesting is that when you park your bike at the bike racks, which are placed everywhere, there are no bike locks. If your bike is gone when you return, just take another one.
